Italian logos – stories in the art of excelling is a complex and extensive exhibition, held in the prestigious seat of Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome; it is about the history of the most important Italian firms and their relationships with the culture, the art and the world of Design. Born Under the patronage of the President of the Republic, it has been sponsored by the most important Ministries and Government agencies as well as numerous cultural and enterprise museums; we have been commissioned this important project by the creators of the exhibition, Innovarte Srl.
The biggest challenge in designing the image of the exhibition and the catalogue was to contain, say, enhance and organize hundreds of stories; from that of the single object or design to those with a broader significance, as – in exemple – the lives of the enlightened entrepreneurs. We kept this challenge in mind at all times when we designed the physical space of the exhibition.
We drew more than 70 educational and illustrative panels, considered as the backbone of the exhibition; each one with different dimensions according to the different needs of the set up and variety of materials. This meant for each panel to be designed into ad hoc grid, and still at the same time it has to meet the requirements of consistency in order to have a fil rouge which will guide the visitor from the beggining to the exit of the exhibition at the Castle.
The specific Pantone® colors red and black, the isometric grid, the typography, the proportions of the golden section, everything, even in the care taken to set up the progress chart it uses and resumes the tools of the visual system that we designed for the exhibition. The banner on the walls of Castel Sant’Angelo, the signals, the advertising panels at the entrance and in the merchandising area, the hundreds of captions and especially the more than 70 educational and illustrating panels that are in fact the heart of the exhibition based on this and which always try to answer the first requirement of the planning: a dialogue-confrontation sought between estrus and rules, recognized as a key to reading and as a leitmotif of the Made in Italy in so many stories of excellence in Italy.
