In our years in Rome have often left the work on two feet to run to the Termini Station to act as guides to friends or acquaintances of way in the city. Drink a beer at the Bar Marani with friends was always the best way to start the visit and was our favorite pastime. In the winter of 2006 Nazario in one of these occasions have to know Matteo and Francesco of Frenkie Snc, our peers all mad fans of Lodown who were putting them on a magazine in the city.
The idea that we won immediately was the declared will to make it a free-press; should be free because the culture should be accessible to all. Two days later we were there to mark the design, header and then to treat the Art direction and layout of the first two numbers.
The method of work? A series of crazy meetings passed to browse hundreds of magazines from around the world stacked in towering columns here and there in the room. Not really a scenery like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but there is something very close.
The project about identity of GRAB is based on five key words: Italian, craftsman, contemporary, partecipated, open. And on a verb: take, take, recover. “What we didn’t let him to take” – so we said years ago at the time of the Gruppo11, and so we remember and some we are still today.
A hand takes, grab, on a red bottom almost seem like a sign warning of work in progress, danger, attention. Draw and proportionate to complete all the letters of the logo GRAB and then those for a full set of fonts.
Dozens of applications of this picture accompanying the launch of the magazine, from PDF marketing and promotion to multimedia presentations and viral video campaigns through posters and stencil around the city.
GRAB magazine after the second exit has changed ownership and care, good luck GRAB.
